is wrestling enough for winning a street fight?

Wrestling is one of the best foundations for fighting. It develops strength, explosiveness, control, resilience, and mental toughness at a very high level. Together with boxing, it forms two of the most important skill sets in combat. A person who can wrestle well and box well is a very difficult opponent for anyone to handle.

Still, wrestling by itself is not enough. It may be enough to overpower an average, untrained attacker, but that kind of confidence can become dangerous in a real confrontation. Real violence is unpredictable, and assuming wrestling alone will solve every situation is a serious mistake.

A practical mindset for self-defense is to assume three things: the opponent may be bigger and stronger, there may be more than one attacker, and a weapon may be involved. In those situations, wrestling without striking ability and without self-defense awareness can put you in a bad position.

Wrestling is an essential tool, and its value cannot be overstated. But to be better prepared for extreme situations, it should be combined with striking and practical self-defense principles.
